- I’ve been having a hard time in various things in life for a while. “A thorn in the flesh” like Paul said. (Maybe mention how I’m back in Nanaimo because of this.) I’m sure you each have yours. Where is Christ’s help when we’re feeling brokne.
- Have you felt broken?
- Neurodivergent (sensitive to noise, colour, textures, sounds);
- Made mistakes/sins
- Don’t feel the way you think you should
- Can’t measure up to others or your own expectations
- Or just physically broken.
- People Jesus dealt with who felt broken and how he treated them
- Mary magdalene: possessed with devils.
- Woman caught in adultery; “neither do i care condemn thee. Go and sin no more” John 8:11
- Leppers: touched before healed
- Peter: so faithful then fulfilled Jesus prophecy that he would deny him repeatedly, but later given Jesus’ commission and implied confidence “feed my sheep”
- He is with us even when we don’t see it:
- Disciples on way to Emmaus
- Footprints in the sand
- My stories of Jesus being with me:
- Getting through border on mission
- Helping someone move as EQ president
- Each child’s birth
- Jesus’s Promises that he will be with us:
- “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28
- “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” John 14:18
- “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands” Isaiah 49:16
- “O ye house of Israel whom I have spared, how oft will I gather you as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, if ye will repent and return unto me with full purpose of heart.” 3 Nephi 10:6
- “I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.” D&C 84:88
- Footprints in the Sand:
- One night a man had a dream.
- He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord.
- Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
- For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
- one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
- When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
- He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints.
- He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
- This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
- “Lord, You said that once I decided to follow you,
- You’d walk with me all the way.
- But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life,
- there is only one set of footprints.
- I don’t understand why, when I needed you most, you would leave me.”
- The Lord replied,
- “My son, My precious child, I love you and I would
- never leave you. During your times of trial and
- suffering, when you see only one set of footprints,
- it was then that I Carried You.”
